"It [Amazon] has tried to buy off political leaders by promising investments and jobs if they back off." This from a New York Times editorial attributing one of Amazon's attempts to avoid becoming a sales tax collector in California as something sinister like bribery. But what makes Amazon's conduct different from that of Oregon and cities like Portland that shower developers and businesses alike with loans and tax incentives to lure them to relocate or stay in Oregon?
