Catholic Church: 'Heartfelt apology'

It has become rote for the Catholic Church to apologize and it is for the same despicable and immoral reason - abuse of children. This time it is abuse by Dutch Catholic institutions. [Dutch inquiry highlights Catholic child abuse.]

I lost my faith in the Catholic Church long ago for other reasons, but I can't fathom the parishioners or the 'faithful' continuing to seemingly accept child abuse by those who hold themselves out as being chosen by God.

Can there be anyone further from God than those that abuse children? Child abuse is endemic in the Catholic Church and one can reasonably argue it is endemic in the Catholic faith.

Catholic faithful are left to pray to the patron saints for child abuse victims. "Patron saints are chosen as special protectors or guardians over areas of life. These areas can include occupations, illnesses, churches, countries, causes -- anything that is important to us." "Patron saints are often chosen today because an interest, talent, or event in their lives overlaps with the special area."

But these "saints" were victims of physical abuse. E,g,, Saint Germaine Cousin Apparently, Catholic children have never been sexually abused - or better argued child sexual abuse is not and never has been recognized as being a "special area" that is "important to us." Maybe it is time for the Catholic Church to find a new patron saint.
